{"id":1516,"date":"2013-08-15T23:11:21","date_gmt":"2013-08-16T05:11:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.csafarmdurhamkawartha.com\/?p=1516"},"modified":"2013-08-15T23:11:21","modified_gmt":"2013-08-16T05:11:21","slug":"in-memory-of-penny","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.csafarmdurhamkawartha.com\/?p=1516","title":{"rendered":"In Memory of Penny"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You may find it strange that this week\u2019s update is dedicated to a dog&#8230;\u00a0 But, to us she was no ordinary dog, and she went a long way to helping keep the farm running smoothly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/beeecade760fa6cae21ced2b3\/images\/penny_pic.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" align=\"none\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some of you may already know that Penny died this week \u2013 something that was unexpected, and left us all feeling a bit nostalgic.\u00a0 Here are a few of our memories of her.<\/p>\n<p>I was in the garden pulling weeds this week, and kept expecting Penny to be sitting there patiently waiting for me to throw a weed for her.\u00a0 Not just any weed &#8211; it had to be a big one; it just wasn\u2019t worth her time and energy otherwise.\u00a0 Sometimes, if you were really having trouble pulling a weed out, she would come over and start digging at the weed!\u00a0 And then when you threw it, she would try so hard to catch it in the air, that sometimes she would do a flip.\u00a0 She would usually land on all four feet, although sometimes not&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>More recently, Penny had developed a certain obsession with the garden hose.\u00a0 Last fall, just as the weather had begun to cool down, we would be rinsing vegetables and she would be trying really hard to eat the water coming out of the hose.\u00a0 This was funny at first, but sometimes it just became frustrating; when you were actually trying to rinse a vegetable \u2013 and not a dog!\u00a0 Not to mention that she would end up a cold, wet and shivering little dog that you refused to feel sorry for.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/beeecade760fa6cae21ced2b3\/images\/wet_penny.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" align=\"none\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Penny also felt it was her duty to accompany the horses into the field and make sure they did their job.\u00a0 She must have run every inch of the farm with the horses!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/beeecade760fa6cae21ced2b3\/images\/penny_and_horses.jpg\" width=\"495\" height=\"262\" align=\"none\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Penny will be missed.\u00a0 She is surely tending the most pristine garden &#8211; full of weeds \u2013 in doggy heaven!<\/p>\n<p>We invite you all out to a Weeding Bee on Saturday, August 24<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 all day.\u00a0 We will have a potluck dinner at 6 pm, if you would like to join us \u2013 please bring food to share, a chair and something to drink for yourself.\u00a0 If that date does not work, you are always welcome to join us on our regular weeding days every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You may find it strange that this week\u2019s update is dedicated to a dog&#8230;\u00a0 But, to us she was no ordinary dog, and she went a long way to helping keep the farm running smoothly.
